SC orders to set up medical board to examine Asaram

The Supreme Court today ordered to set up a medical board to examine the health of detained self-styled godman Asaram Bapu.

The apex court passed the order while hearing the bail plea filed by Asaram in connection with a rape case filed against him in Gujarat.

The godman has urged the court to grant him bail on the grounds of ill-health.

The Rajasthan government has been ordered by the top court to set up a medical board to examine Asaram and submit a health report by September 23 when the court will next hear this case.

Meanwhile, the controversial godman will have to remain behind bars for some more days as the court said that his bail will only be considered after all the witnesses in the case have deposed before the trial court.

Asaram is currently lodged in Jodhpur Central Jail. He was briefly hospitalised earlier this month after his health deteriorated.
