Mulayam Singh Yadav: Polls can't be won by strong arm tactics

Warning Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, on Wednesday, cautioned party cadres that polls could not be won with "dabangai" (strong arm tactics). Mulayam dwelt on the internal feud in the SP and suggested he wanted to see the status quo restored.

Talking about the family feud that had spilled out into the public space, Mulayam said, "Barkhastagi waapas leni chahiye thi, taaki ek message jaaye." Without taking the names of brother Shivpal or son Akhilesh, Mulayam's open-ended statement may have been in reference to the spate of sackings; of ministers by Akhilesh, and youth members by Shivpal.

Mulayam also urged the party to project a united face ahead of the UP polls. Saying that image building cannot be done through 'gutbaazi' (groupism) or 'kanaphoosi' (gossiping), the SP chief said it was crucial that the youth continued to support the SP.

Talking about challenges before the Samajwadi Party, he said, " Ye chugalkhori kar rahe hain apni image banane ke liye. Image kanaphoosi se nahi banti."

Addressing the youth, Mulayam added, "I had never imagined there are such people in our party. This is your party, you have to win people's faith and confidence by doing honest, hard work. You will have to be softspoken to public. There should be no 'gutbaazi'."

Mulayam also cautioned the leaders sharing the stage with him in Ghazipur saying, " Jo manch par baithe hain samajh lein, mauqa mila hai, pehchan ho gayi hai, Samajwadi Party ka shubhchintak kaun hai. Janata humara saath degi."
