Modi prisoner of his image, doing TRP politics: Rahul Gandhi as CPP chair

Chairing the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting in the absence of his ailing mother Sonia, vice-president Rahul Gandhi today acted as the defacto president of his party.

Addressing the CPP meet, Rahul attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he is "more interested in TRP politics".

"We never gave India a PM who based his entire policy-making strategy on TRPs," he said.

TRPs or Television Rating Points is a tool to decide which programmes are viewed the most.

"The country has suffered tremendous damage as a result of vanity and incompetence of our PM," Rahul added.

Speaking on demonetisation, Rahul said, "We never gave a PM who was ready to inflict such tremendous suffering on people of India to protect his own persona."

"The Congress never gave India a Prime Minister who was a prisoner of his own image," he said in the Parliamentary Party meeting.

"We never gave India a PM who bypassed the experience of those sitting in the institutions," the Congress leader said.

Touching upon the recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, suspected to be launched from Pakistan, Rahul said, "It is high time the government develops a coherent strategy on Pakistan. We were told that the idea behind surgical strikes was to stop Pakistan from cross-border attacks," he said. "But there have been 21 major attacks and hundreds of ceasefire violations since the surgical strikes."

"As Chief Minister of Gujarat, this Prime Minister used to ridicule our Pakistan policy. Well, our Pakistan policy resulted in complete global isolation of Pakistan," he said.

"Today, the same person who used to ridicule us sits silently while Kashmir burns. PM Modi will be judged by history as the man who gifted massive political space to anti-India forces by creating the opportunistic BJP-PDP alliance," he added.
