In another jolt to Arvind Kejriwal's Delhi government, LG Najeeb Jung today declared reconstitution of Delhi Waqf Board and appointment of its CEO illegal and void ab initio in addition to order a CBI probe into the board's activities.
The decision comes days after the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Delhi government raided Delhi Waqf Board office in connection with alleged recruitment scam against its chief and AAP MLA Amantullah Khan.
The ACB team raided the Delhi Waqf Board office in Daryagnaj and spent nearly four hours seeking details of the alleged recruitment during Khan's chairmanship.
Two days later, Khan had resigned as its chairman saying that he was being "framed in false cases".
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, however, did not accept his resignation.
On Wednesday, two more Delhi Waqf Board members announced their resignation from the body alleging "corruption" and "irregularities in appointments" in the regime of Amanatullah Khan, who on his part has denied the charges.
Members, Mufti Ejaj Arshad Qazmi and Chaudhary Sharif Ahmad told reporters that they had resigned from the membership of the Board and sent their resignation letters to Lt Governor Najeeb Jung.
Following the resignations of Ejaj and Sharif, the six-member Board was left with just two members including Khan.
Two other members including Congress Rajya Sabha MP Parvez Hashmi had resigned from the Board a few months ago.
Below is a copy of the order issued by the LG office today.
