Iconic filmmaker K. Balachander, who is undergoing treatment for urinary infection at Cauvery hospital, has been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
"Veteran film director K. Balachander has developed urinary tract infection and has been admitted to the ICU for further treatment. He is critical but his general condition is stable. He is being ably managed by a team of doctors," director of medical services, Cauvery hospital, said in a statement.
Balachander, 84, was admitted to the hospital Monday. Superstar Kamal Haasan has wished Balachander a speedy recovery and said that he wants to show him Tamil film Uttama Villain.
The legendary director is known for introducing stars such as Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Saritha and Prakash Raj. He has made over 150 films including Aval Ora Thodar Kathai, Apoorva Raagangal, Avargal, Varumayin Niram Sigappu and 47 Natkal.
Rajinikanth, Mohan Raman, Khushbu and filmmaker Mani Ratnam also visited Balachander and wished for his speedy recovery.
