Rohit Sharma scored a swashbuckling 68 off just 49 balls to take his team to another victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 24th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at Mumbai.
Rohit have to score a lot of runs if Mumbai Indians (MI) are eyeing to make it to the qualifiers or even for the title. He's the backbone of MI's batting lineup and his success at the top will boost the team's morale as he gets his team to a flying start.
The MI skipper has scored 655 runs in 18 games against KKR at an incredible average of 54.58. KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir said that he would look to stop Rohit from scoring runs which eventually didn't happen as a result of which KKR suffered a defeat.
MI were chasing a big target of 175 in 20 overs. Rohit sent a chill down KKR's spine when he pulled Jaydev Unadkat for a big six over deep square leg into the second tier. His head was still and watched the ball till the very last second which helped him to middle it.
In the 4th over, he cut Umesh Yadav for a superb boundary through point. The next ball was punched sweetly towards the cover boundary. He offered a straight bat and confronted spinner Sunil Narine with unmatched confidence.
Rohit's shot selection was superb and he was picking the right delivery. The MI's dugout was not under pressure as long as their skipper was out there in the middle. It's essential for a team to have a set batsman at the crease till the end while chasing such a big target and Rohit was certainly aware of this and ensured that he batted throughout the innings.
