Amidst erratic showers and bowler friendly conditions on Tuesday, Sunrisers Hyderabad could not continue their rousing streak of victories. They gave a performance that lacked conviction, limping in the face of some methodical bowling by an Ashok Dinda-led Rising Pune Supergiants attack.
Sunrisers needed a strong start against a Pune team that was desperately in need of victory. But, they lost captain and top-scorer David Warner in the first over. Instead of accepting responsibility, the batters displayed a batting that lacked both conviction and commitment.
The England T20 captain Eoin Morgan paid the price for an expansive drive without displacing his feet and drew a duck on Tuesday. At the end of the PowerPlay, Sunrisers were 27 for three and the pressure was clearly showing on them.
Shikhar Dhawan tried to pull off a rescue act with Naman Ojha, but the situation was severe. His 53-ball 56 was the only positive thing for Hyderabad in an otherwise miserable evening. By the end, the rain gods had mercy on struggling Sunrisers, bringing the match to a rushed end in the 11th over. At 94-3, the Supergiants won by 34 runs through Duckworth Lewis.
Sunrisers now need a perfect performance against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday. The bowling needs to be top notch and it will be the batsmen's responsibility to come together as an entity.
