HWL 2015: India register thrilling 3-2 win over Malaysia in quarters

India has managed to reach the last four stage of the 2015 Hockey World League (HWL) semifinal by knocking Malaysia 3-2 in the quarter-final on Wednesday.

India has already qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics. It will face the winner of the match between hosts Belgium and France in the semi-final. World No.1 Australia beat Ireland 4-1 to face England in the semi-final. England defeated Pakistan 2-1 in the earlier matches held on the day. With this defeat, four-time World Cup winners Pakistan were unsuccessful to qualify for the Olympic Games.

In the match with Malaysia, India seized the first opportunity in the third minute as Akashdeep Singh took flight from the right of the Malaysian circle and sidestepped two markers before passing it to Satbir, who hit the ball home to make it 1-0.

After a minute, Akashdeep got a wonderful chance to make it 2-0 as he was on his own with rival goalkeeper Roslan Jamaluddin but the Indian deflected it over the post.

Malaysia appeared better in the last five minutes of the first quarter and got their equalizer in the 15th minute as Azuna Hasan smashed the ball on the foot of India's Birendra Lakra, letting a penalty corner. Skipper Rahim fired a grounder to the right corner of the post.

Trailing 1-2, India went in the attack mode from the start of the final quarter of 15 minutes.

Jasjit struck high into the net to make it 2-2 following a chaotic defence from the Malaysians.

After India equalized the game, they were given a penalty corner. Jasjit gave the 3-2 lead for India in the 56th minute.
