Beyonce has created history by earning nine nominations for the 2017 Grammy Awards, thus extending her lead as the most-nominated woman in the history of the prestigious award.
The organization behind the ceremony announced that Beyonce, Drake, Rihanna and Adele are the frontrunners for the 59th annual Grammy Awards. The announcement was made on Tuesday.
Beyonce managed to scoop nine nods for "Lemonade." She will now compete in each of the top three categories against the British diva Adele.
For album of the year, "Lemonade" and "25" will have to compete with Drake's "Views," "Purpose," Justin Bieber's album and "A Sailor's Guide to Earth" by the country singer Sturgill Simpson.
It is notable that Beyonce has so far won 20 but she has never won the album of the year prize. In 2015 she was beaten to the title by Beck and this was not liked by rapper Kanye West, who had made her displeasure known by storming on the stage.
This year West has received eight nominations for his album The Life Of Pablo. He has earned all these nomination in the rap categories.
Meanwhile, Drake and Rihanna have also managed to get eight nominations, including three for their hit collaboration, Work.
