Businesses, brands, charities and organizations will now have the opportunity to get the desired .London web address from today.
More than 100,000 companies have already shown their interest by registering to obtain a .London web address.
This would mark the beginning of a 3-month period during which natives of London will be given priority. Moreover, trademark holders will also be able to get the coveted web address during the three month period.
West Ham United Football Club, TechHub, London Symphony Orchestra, Meantime Brewery, and Fortnum and Mason are among the first organizations to create and launch their websites utilizing the new web domain.
Jan Corstens, who is the worldwide project partner at ICANN's Trademark Clearinghouse and Partner at Deloitte, said "The arrival of .London is a major milestone in the long history of the UK's capital, building a new home for the city online. Be it a small London cafe or one of the capital's prominent sports clubs, a dot London web address offers a stronger online connection to the London community surfing the web."
The introduction of .London is considered an expansion of the internet world, which will see the worldwide internet body ICANN, introduce several new web addresses as alternatives to .org, .com and .org.
The new web domain is a part of London & Partners, the Mayor's promotional association for London. Dot London is closely working with CentralNic Group in order to distribute .London addressed through the website: www.buydomains.london.
