Delhi govt's odd-even formula for traffic: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for odd numbers only - Delhi's AAP government has spelled out the days for odd and even numbered vehicles to ply in the city under a plan that was hailed as a "good idea" by Chief Justice of India TS Thakur.
The vehicles with odd number registration would be allowed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Public Works Department Minister Satyendra Jain said. Those with even-numbered vehicles can drive them on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Jain didn't say anything about Sundays.
Jain said the Delhi government would strengthen public transport from January 1 so as not to put motorists in difficulties.
On Friday, a decision to ration road space was announced by the Delhi government after the Delhi High Court warned that the capital was becoming a virtual gas chamber.
The restrictions will not apply to CNG-driven public transport vehicles including auto-rickshaws, buses and taxis. The restrictions would apply to all the bureaucrats and ministers as well.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hailed Chief Justice Thakur for his support. "His support to odd-even formula is welcome and a huge encouragement," he said.
