Sony commemorates the 20th anniversary of its PlayStation gaming console with a special PS4 model, coming with an "original grey" finish that reminds you of the initial Playstation Console.
The original PlayStation was unveiled by the firm on December 3, 1994 in Japan.
The company stated that only 12,300 units of the special PS4, reflecting the original launch date, will be shipped globally, priced at 499 euros (616 dollars).
Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios, stated in a blog post "The mid-90s were an exciting time for game developers, driven by the explosion of powerful but affordable 3D graphics rendering hardware and the birth of many young and adventurous development studios. The original PlayStation was meant to embody that sense of adventure and discovery, that sense that anything was possible."
The special anniversary PS4 version powered by an x86 processor and improved PC GPU, is equipped with 8GB of high-speed unified memory as well as system memory supported by local storage. It also consists of the revamped DualShock 4 controller.
Sony introduced its recent-generation console in the month of February 2013, signifying a drift from taking the PlayStation to be "a box or console" to the best place for playing games. It formally came in November, with Sony selling a record 2.1 million consoles across the globe by the year-end. Another 12,300 units may shortly be added to the numbers, with the gaming enthusiasts grabbing the limited-edition console.
