17-yr-old IIT aspirant ends life despite clearing exam

Kota, Rajasthan: A day after knowing that she had cleared the IIT entrance exam, a 17-year-old girl jumped off a fifth floor home in Rajasthan's Kota. The police say the teen was disappointed with her IIT results.

The victim Kriti Tripathi?s class XII results are yet to be announced. However, her JEE Mains results came out on Wednesday. Though, the cut-off marks were 100, she scored 144. As per the coaching officials, it was a decent score and she had a good chance of cracking IIT, SHO of Jawahar Nagar police station Harshit Bharati, said.

Kriti had moved to Kota two years ago and was staying in the apartment in Ashirwad Angan near Om Tower. She took admission in a senior secondary school and joined a coaching institute to prepare for IIT simultaneously, Bharati said. Her father, Anshuman Tripathi, runs a travel agency, and her parents made an arrangement that one of them would stay with her always, Bharati added.

Anshuman had gone to the gym around 8.30 am when he received a call from his wife. Some neighbours had called up his wife, telling her that a girl had jumped from the 5th floor and she should check if it was Kriti. On receiving the call from his wife, Anshuman rushed to the spot and identified the girl as his daughter, SHO said.
