A teenage girl in Nuh district of Haryana committed suicide on Monday after she was allegedly gang-raped by eight men belonging to her own village. All the eight have been identified and police are carrying out raids to arrest them.
As the 16-year-old girl, a student of Class XII, was alone at her home on late on Sunday evening, the accused arrived in motorcycles and took her to a secluded place. They allegedly took turns to rape her and dumped the victim near her home a few hours later.
The victim's cousin, who found her lying unconscious on Monday morning, helped her into the house and informed her parents about the incident.
The girl's father later lodged a complaint with the police and a case of kidnapping and rape was registered. However, later in the day, the girl committed suicide by hanging herself.
The police said that all the accused have been identified and raids were being conducted to arrest them. "Three teams have been constituted to conduct raids and arrest the accused. We hope to make the arrests soon," said Station House Officer (Rozka Meo) Jai Bhan Tyagi.
Meanwhile, the girl's family alleged that the accused belonged to influential families and were trying to put pressure on them to withdraw the case and reach a compromise.
